incoming ..

Another trip to the city, by the free ferry.

Right across the water, the other skyline is also pretty impressive too !
Impressive as it may be, with the big apple next door, its just the other place where the bridge and tunnel crowd live.

I think the water gets blue-er in the winter ..

chasing rainbows ..

.. may be a fruitless task, but is enchanting for sure !

question: should it be "may" in the above sentence, or "might" ?

reflections

Things are seen much clearer,
when the canvas holding the tapestry
is calmer, free of wrinkles.

However, it takes a long time for the storm-ripples to subside ..

Hurricanes hardly come alone.

the one that flew away.

It spread out its wings to land, but I needed all the space for myself. I shooed it away.
It hovered for a while, but then got tired and went looking for another spot.

Now that its flown, it's quite not the same anymore. I keep scanning the grey horizon for a glimpse...

a delicate balance

Settling, is a tricky thing.

For one used to live out of a suitcase, its quite unfamiliar ground - one where you acquire a lot of extra baggage, and add/subtract activities to get the balancing act right. A huge lot of additions and subtractions. can't resist adding a quip about multiplication as well...

People around provide assurances by pointing out other stacked pebbles and how well they have held against time.

But somehow, it still feels that the slightest gale could bring things toppling down.

even grander than *the grand*

A trip to antelope canyon is like you have been tripping on something incredible.

Gives a new meaning to the term "water colour painting". After all, the water has been working at it since about a million years.

the roads i took

Two paths, each made of wood
Looked down both, and try as I could
Was any better? I could not sense.

I walked down one, it ended soon;
Took the other on my return
It made not the slightest difference.

I need to get better at path selection :)

blind spot

There's still no light at the end of the tunnel, but the tunnel itself has morphed into a blazing cacophony of all sorts of green. Bright. And beautiful. Seduces you away from plodding away behind that elusive light.

You can stay strong and continue the search.

You can flirt awhile, rejoice in the spring, soak in the summer sun, and then make a scrambled move on, when the hardships of winter come knocking again.

Or, you can stay enamored for a lifetime. Now, would that be such a bad thing ?

.. on the breath of god

A feather, that is.

Collected the book on a whim from the local library, and floated into a world of an entrant into the New World. An immigrant in the land of immigrants, yet individual as the newer one. Accepted on merit - isn't that what is expected in the promised land ?
As one searching for identity, she lives the eternal question - does the search lie in the future, in one's actions, or in the past, in one's heritage ?

It was good reading, if only for the fact that it is easy to empathise with the same question.

supermoon

I was there, and so were a hundred others.

To watch the biggest moon of the century rise.
Over the vast plain where Washington once watched the movement of the British troops.

Even at that distance, it dwarfed everything in sight.

I did not get the photographs I wished for, but it was a scene of a lifetime.

Just f8 and be there ... With so many memories, some are surely going to stick on to the sensor !

wavy

They wear down the rocks, and then we put in some more concrete blocks for them to grind against.

Still, the determination does not waver.

standing guard

Over another pier, at another beach.

At a time when the place is virtually unrecognizable, which may not be such a bad thing.
There are more gulls around than people.
Courtesy winter.

in flight

"Our arrows will block out the sun"
-Darius, in the movie 300

Probably he could have sent in a platoon of geese instead. As effective, and in terms of inspiring awe, I've rarely seen something more effective..

So there are these thousands of birds, browsing through the wide field, cackling away, but not quite a spectacle as you'd wish What it takes, to quote another line, is just a little push...

f8 and be there

Really, this one's f5, but the saying's not so much about the right aperture..

The only important thing was being there - at five pm on a Saturday after a snowed-out Friday, at the right time to catch golden rays of the setting sun. Which last all of two minutes or so. And a flock of geese flew by just once, just at the right moment.

Its the two seconds that make the staying out in twenty minutes of eyeball-freezing temperatures so worthwhile.

Watching 'All Creatures Great and Small' these days. Another of my long-time favorite novels , adapted oh-so beautifully for the silver screen. The Scottish dales filmed in the series are incredibly rugged and soothing at the same time, scenery you can spend ages walking in ..

I need some click-your-fingers-and-be-there kind of magic equipment.

water, water, everywhere ..

.. and not a drop to drink.
Well, snow is a form of water, ain't it ?!

I shoulder my backpack .. and in my mind, I am the bold mariner, out to explore the endless unknown.

In truth, I am just shivering in the park in my backyard.

road no more

Sometimes, its just a dead end.

There's nothing you can do, but turn around and make a new start.

It'd have been great if you'd have heeded the warning signs earlier. Even if you didn't, hopefully, you learnt something from this foray.

terrible weather .. or is it ?

Minus seventeen degrees on the outside, not factoring in the windchill.Everywhere around, a three inch bed of fresh snow.

I couldn't survive half an hour without risking frostbite. Accoutered as I was.
For the stag, it was all just another day at play.

No wonder, in the animal world, humans are the wimps.

building castles ..

.. in the snow is a good idea, only if you know they will melt one day.

It does not help to go searching for them when winter's over .

to whom it may concern ..

for the record, the ground beneath her feet would be just as precious ..

hny n more

Its that time of the year again ..

Time to make resolutions, you mean ?

No, I just meant that this photo blog completes a year.. but then there's a resolution there too ..

Sometimes, one just needs the little push. Like to get up on a winter morning, leave the warm bed and pad up for a jog .Once you are out though, its heaven - no, not too cold, but yes, superb surroundings.

Sometimes, a resolution is all you need to open up a world of magic.
